Olayombo

In Peter Bow Wilkins (2022), Olayombo emphasizes texture and dimension, utilizing thick paint layers to craft sculptural faces that reflect identity and heritage. His work invites reflection on fatherhood and the vital role fathers play in nurturing the next generation, while also acknowledging the often-overlooked contributions of Black cowboys in the American West. Through his art, Olayombo challenges conventional narratives and celebrates fluidity in representation.

Olayombo explores themes of identity, masculinity and societal constructs through his large-scale

portraits of male subjects. By incorporating colors like pink and pastels, he challenges traditional gender norms, creating vibrant and textured pieces with oils, acrylics, charcoal and pastels, often using a palette knife for a three-dimensional effect. Drawing inspiration from Yoruba culture, particularly scarification, Olayombo critiques toxic masculinity and gender roles. Raised with five sisters, he aims to redefine how men, especially Black men, are portrayed in art.
