ALEKSANDAR

DURAVCEVIC

Untitled (The 11) (2016) is a poignant and thought-provoking work by Djurdjevic, reflecting on identity, collective memory and the complexities of national history, especially within the context of the former Yugoslavia. Originating as a conceptual Library of Not Enough, The 11 lists terms like Lust, Sacrifice, Boredom, Mercy, Courage, Patience, Love, Honor, Loyalty, Trust and Time, evoking a sense of yearning and absence.

This text-based work serves as a reinterpretation of the Ten Commandments, symbolically adding an “eleventh” that speaks to the insufficiency and struggles of human virtues in turbulent times. Djurdjevic’s sculpture also recalls the fraught history of monuments and statues commemorating leaders and warriors, particularly within the Balkans.
